Baseball Season Arrives

Jackie Mitchell, Joe Engel, Gehrig and Ruth

Balls, bats and bases will be in our faces until winter. Which obviously means baseball season opened yesterday.

For lovers of the sport, or lovers of awesome women, start the season with this story:

On April 2, of 1931, 17-year-old Jackie Mitchell, a pitcher for a AA minor league team The Chattanooga Lookouts, struck out New York Yankees and Murderers’ Row members Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig in consecutiveĀ at-bats.

Essentially, a girl competed against and beat two of the most well-known baseball players of all time. Boom.
